About the Secret - Part I

Published:

Firstly I would like to thank you for the fantastic response we received to the last E-Report when so many subscribers to this E-Report told us ways in which they have been using their Peaceful Place - a principal ingredient to put The Secret to work for you. A few of them are in Success Stories below.

Have you read the book "The Secret" by Australian, Rhonda Byrne?  Or perhaps seen the DVD?  It's all about the Law of Attraction. Check out the website at http://www.thesecret.tv/  and watch the first 20 minutes at:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_b1GKGWJbE8

There is no doubt that The Secret has been a marketing phenomenon - it has reached at least 15 million people in one year. With it has come an increased awareness of our own power, and because I have been asked so often, I am driven to expand the availability of my techniques. I know that what I teach contains the systems and techniques on How to use the Secret. So how do I plan to expand? My first announcement is in the PS to this E-Report - I'm excited.

Some Background

For a while, when The Secret first came out a couple of years ago,  it seemed to take the world by storm.  Many exchanges of email were talking about it and all the chat shows, including Oprah, were talking about it ... and then the other type of books started coming out like "The Secret of 'The Secret' " by Karen Kelly ... hmmm ... now there's another story in itself! ... and it enters another whole realm.  Initially I almost put down this book as it was starting to feel a bit like retribution ... you can perhaps get the gist of what I mean if you watch this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFp-iPSPplE ... and it certainly does seem like a valid claim that Rhonda Byrne "used" material from the works of Esther and Jerry Hicks and that they did appear in the first version of the DVD of The Secret but then disappeared after a disagreement (yes, that is Esther Hicks in the clip, speaking about herself in the 3rd person and she does present her "case" very clearly and eloquently).

However the book by Karen Kelly does go on to get to its stated task of "Unlocking the Mysteries of the Runaway Bestseller".  It is certainly acknowledged that no one person has exclusive rights to this sort of information.  If the whole business of The Secret grabs your attention ... then the book by Karen Kelly is probably worth reading.

Do they tell you HOW TO DO IT or is it still a Secret?

When I read The Secret (which I will now refer to in this E-Report as TS) as much as I liked it, my first thoughts were along the lines of ... but they don't tell you how to do it ... whereas I do explain how to do what they're talking about. My wife and both my sons really liked TS and I needed to explore the reasons why it had made such a strong impact ... so I dug a bit deeper and did my old analysing trick.

Many well known people appear in TS - some of whom I have admired and gained wisdom from over the years. On page 37 of TS, Bob Proctor emphasises the importance of changing your feelings in an instant ... it's really what I have been teaching as the Peaceful Place method and then TS talks about a type of technique which I have been teaching as an "Emotional Anchor"? - all extremely powerful. But how to actually do it? The information is all there but TS keeps the secret ... the true secret about how to actually do it. TS talks about the power of the way we speak to ourselves and that the subconscious mind doesn't get the word "don't" ... therefore with "Don't Forget", "Don't Worry" ... what message does the subconscious mind really get? You know it already .... you need to focus on what you DO want (not what you don't want). TS talks about the importance of being aware of any negative thoughts so that they can instantly be replaced in your mind with good, positive thoughts ... absolutely! Rhonda Byrne states in TS that "...without exception, every teacher in this book uses meditation as a daily practice."? Of course I'm not surprised to hear that.

Money, Goals, Comfort Zone, Balance and Wisdom

TS has a fairly strong focus on money ... and many of us would know how it feels to be wanting more of that in our lives. Money is vital ... and ... I still believe that Balance in one's life is paramount too. Acquire a lot of money ... and so what?! Does it really make us happy? It certainly eases a lot of burdens ... and yet our lives may still be lacking in other ways.

TS hints at having goals ... although in fairly non-specific terms. I do like the quote they include from Dr Martin Luther King, Jr - "Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase. Just take the first step."? Now this means that once you have visualised and set the end result - the end goal - you only need the first step to start your journey. Remember what Goethe said: "Begin it now and the whole universe opens up to assist you." And yet I believe that certain parts of TS could easily mislead people to believe that all they have to do is ask, believe and receive .... oh if it were just that easy!!! Just think it into reality. Of course having our positive thoughts aligned with what goals we want to achieve is of paramount importance .... and we must do other things as well. And we must be quite specific. Karen Kelly says in her book "Ask, believe, act, and (greatly increase your chances to) receive."? She goes on to say? "... some believers express concern that The Secret simplifies the concept of attraction to such a degree that it is rendered useless, particularly for novices who have no other information about it."

The words "expand your Comfort Zone" are not used as such in TS ... and yet the budding of that idea is present. But once again .... how to do that

So ... is it really a secret? Great word isn't it ... very evocative ... we all want to be in on a secret. The "secrets" revealed in TS are age-old wisdoms ... some of us are ready, receptive and open to take in the information and in that case the words will be an inspiration ... and if not, then the seeds will fall upon fallow ground. It's like the old clich? about being able to lead a horse to water ... but ... you know the rest.

Quotes

I would like to quote a few paragraphs from TS from pages 165-166 and they are:

Jack Canfield - You Are Not Your Past
A lot of people feel like they're victims in life, and they'll often point to past events, perhaps growing up with an abusive parent or in a dysfunctional family. Most psychologists believe that about 85 percent of families are dysfunctional, so all of a sudden you're not so unique.
My parents were alcoholics. My dad abused me. My mother divorced him when I was six .... I mean, that's almost everybody's story in some form or not. The real question is, what are you going to do now? What do you choose now? Because you can either keep focusing on that, or you can focus on what you want. And when people start focusing on what they want, what they don't want falls away, and what they want expands, and the other part disappears.

Prentice Mulford - You Are Not Your Past
A person who sets his or her mind on the dark side of life, who lives over and over the misfortunes and disappointments of the past, prays for similar misfortunes and disappointments in the future.  If you will see nothing but ill luck in the future, you are praying for such ill luck and will surely get it.

There's more

On some level I think most of us who have searched in our lives know that we can deal with and rise above past events. Very few of us skate through life free of challenges and some complications. As I often say though, these are the very experiences from which we can springboard and grow - they are all lessons for our soul. It is through life's challenges that we learn the most and character building can really be true.

Yes, I would almost have believed that Rhonda Byrne has done my CALM Seminar ... but of course I do not have a monopoly on these techniques ... they have been around for centuries, and in recent times they have been further backed up by science - which to me is a corner-stone of why and how I really came to explore the techniques and teachings and develop my seminars.

So, where to from here? I am convinced that I must now act and revive methods to involve others to assist me in expanding the availability of my techniques. All my seminars have the Key to the Secret ... and that is the "How to do it"! Are you interested in helping to teach or pass on these methods? If so please read the PS below.

All the best,

Success Stories

Hi Sandy - I just thought I'd let you know that I did the tandem skydive yesterday and survived unscathed! Leading up to the day I used goal settings/visualisation to successfully complete the jump in my mind and I used Peaceful Place to calm my nerves (needed to do that a few times on the ground and in the aircraft!) and called on the light to protect me! A friend attended to provide moral support. It was great to have him there. DS, Vic

Hi Sandy - Being at my PP involves the warmth of the sun's rays through my body. That feeling was the signal of arriving at the Alpha point. It is now becoming a source of healing.Grief can be a confronting and lonely place. Going to my PP has reminded me of the person I have lost, where emotions have overwhelmed me and I sob ...again. However I've discovered that quick trips to my PP through the course of the day, feeling the sun's warmth, is like having a small drink of water after an anaesthesia. Not only does it offer a sense of relief to a difficult reality, but the sips are getting more frequent and longer, without the accompanying guilt for wanting to feel better, and without the urge to cry. I'm beginning to find a reassurance in my PP, moments of peace, moments of warmth, of comfort, of healing, - my Peaceful Place.  BB, NSW

Dear Sandy - You did a seminar many years ago in Wellington for the Australian Scholarship Group and I bought the tapes and a book for my daughter. She taught herself to find her peaceful place and she's used it ever since and so have I.

A couple of years ago you came again and we were both extremely pleased to meet you at a seminar and we both bought tapes and books.

We've been dealing with abusive patterns of behaviour which go back many generations.
The forebears of my daughter's father's family on her father's side were so extremely cruel. It is also part of her father's makeup.

In my family destructive behaviour is on my father's matriarchal line and we haven't been able to do the genealogical research yet to determine the reasons.

We often remember your situation with your daughters years ago and how difficult that was.

I am so overwhelmed at times that I forget my PP and when I consciously remember to do it things improve. And sometimes when I look back over the day and sort out what got me through it, I realise it's the PP kicking in of its own accord somehow. I learn't it well but I need to apply it more often.

I do want to thank you for your dedication to sharing your experiences and learning with all of us and I hope to do more seminars with you either in Australia or in New Zealand in the future. E E, NZ
